On Tuesday 11th February, 10 teams gathered at Worthing Rugby Club to participate in a charity quiz night to help raise vital funds for Care for Veterans. The evening was a great success and saw a total of £500 raised for the Worthing-based charity.
The teams hard at work.
The evening had 50 participants working hard through 8 rounds of quizzing. Making the event stand out were two special rounds – a Valentines Day themed round and a Military history round with VE day questions to commemorate the importance of this year being the 80th anniversary of VE day – 8th May VE Day 80.
A special thank you to Bob Smytherman, Worthing’s town crier and proud supporter of Care for Veterans, for being the engaging Quiz Master and to Worthing Rugby Club who hosted the evening and have chosen Care for Veterans as their charity of the year.
The winning team was ‘Smarty Pints’ with joint second place going to ‘Prop’s Props’ and ‘Not a Ruckin Clue’ and ‘Think Tanks’ following in 3rd.

Ed Sampson and ’Ed’s Elements’
A special mention to Ed Sampson, one of Care for Veterans past residents, who left the home after a period of rehabilitation. Ed and his team attended as ‘Ed’s Elements’. You can find more about Ed’s amazing journey here: The Career and Life of Ed Sampson: From RAF Technician to Care For Veterans Resident.
Events and Corporate Manager Clare Silva commented, “on behalf of everyone at Care for Veterans, we would like to say a massive thank you to all our attendees, volunteers and to the amazing companies that donated prizes for the raffle. Thank you to Out of Bounds, Portsmouth Distillery, Piglets Pantry, Mindworks Worthing and Kingscote Estate & Vineyard whose kind donations helped towards the amazing £500 raised in one evening!”
This Quiz Night was filled with fun, laughter and friendly competition. The event goes towards supporting Care for Veterans, a 60-bed facility specialising in rehabilitative, respite, long-term and palliative care for ex-military personnel and their families. With over 1.5 million a year to raise and no government funding available, charity events like the popular Quiz Nights are vital to the continuity of Care for Veterans.
Care for Veterans next event will be their annual Golf Day on the 15th May 2025 at the exclusive Ham Manor Golf Club with celebrity guests. More information can be found on their website.
